Quit Smoking -Just an idea

November 27th, 2008 Posted in Quit smoking

How often have you thought about stopping smoking?

All the time, often, occasionally, maybe never, wherever you are in the scheme of things  it really doesn’t matter.  There are very few people that decide to do anything instantly, whether it is stopping smoking, losing weight, running a marathon,  learning to drive, buying a new house, carpet,or suite etc.  Whatever it is it starts with a tiny seed of an idea that flashes past your face and is gone as quickly as it came but then a few days later you may find that seed washes over you once again and you quickly let it go, “me give up smoking don’t be daft.” A few days later it is there again and this time you let it linger for a little while before brushing it away – what a strange idea you’ve always smoked!

A week later you are sitting in the hairdressers idly flicking through a magazine and there’s an article about the dangers of smoking and the damage it does to your health and gosh you find yourself reading it but of course, that is what happens to other people it could never happen to me I’m fit and healthy aren’t I!

Two weeks later a friend calls to say an old school pal just passed away – he was too young to die it was cancer she says remember how we all started smoking behind the bike sheds all those years ago.  Hanging up the phone you stand listening to that little voice in your head perhaps it is time to quit smoking “me give up smoking don’t be daft.”

Out walking the dog a few days later you catch yourself pausing for breath and feel that tightness in your chest – “funny I noticed that feeling last week when the lift was out of order and I had to climb the stairs I should have been able to do 2 flights of steps easily at my age – me give up smoking don’t be daft.”

It’s cold and wet it feels like it’s been raining all year wouldn’t it be good to get away for a week to some where warm and sunny just to soak up some sunshine and abandon the routine, great idea but I can’t afford it. You could give up smoking now that would be a good idea, think where all that fag money would take you, £2,000 per year (20 per day at £5.50pack)  “me give up smoking don’t be daft.”

Well perhaps I could cut back a bit, it really is quite a drag (no pun intended) having to go outside every time I want a smoke and I am sick of getting wet and I missed the goal last night on the television, they always score when I’m outside  “me give up smoking maybe I should.”

The car needs a new exhaust and a man at work has just had a heart attack and that wheezing in my chest is getting worse “me give up smoking perhaps I could.”

It isn’t easy giving up on your own, smoking has been your best friend for many years you’ve done everything together shared the highs and the lows but then again think how much you could have done if you hadn’t smoked – “me give up smoking what a great idea”

Want to talk about it you may be surprised how easy it is with this simple successful system.

What a great idea!
